Charles Daney's Being and Nakedness site provides information about Judith Moffett and her novel Pennterra and short story Surviving. I have read the latter, and found it an intriguing alternative view of a Tarzan situation. Charles Daney gives a fair amount of space to Pennterra, with a strong implied recommendation.

Surviving was first published in Fantasy & Science Fiction, 1986 June issue. It has appeared in several collections:
