Charles Daney's Being and Nakedness site provides information about Edgar Rice Burroughs and his novels about Tarzan and John Carter of Mars. I am ashamed to say that I've never read either Tarzan novel, although I did read A Princess Of Mars - which left me somewhat cold. I'm sure that is my loss, as Burroughs has a large and enthusiastic following. There's an alternative take on a human brought up by apes in Judith Moffett's story Surviving. You can get an idea of the writing from some extracts, or by reading the full texts via Project Gutenberg.
Tarzan Of The Apes and A Princess Of Mars are in print. There have been many Tarzan movies, with the first films of Tarzan Of The Apes and Son Of Tarzan being made in 1918 and 1920 respectively.
