Born "transgendered", Jennifer Finney Boylan published The Planets under her previous name of James Finney Boylan. Explicitly linked to Holst's orchestral suite, the novel places fictional characters in the real (but bizarre) Pennsylvania town of Centralia.
The characters are often at least as out of the ordinary as their surroundings. One, Judith Lenahan, is a "nudist", but her nudism, while practised for as long as possible every day, is confined to the interior of her apartment. That would be that, if Boylan hadn't included some strongly-argued justification for Judith's abhorence of clothes. Included in the extracts, these seem to be more than the simple rehash of naturist publicity found in some other books detailed on Yarns Without Threads.
